UberSoldier II
According to various sources, Adolf Hilter was interested in the occult and other mystical powers during his tenure as Germany’s top man. And by various sources I mean the movie Raiders of the Lost Ark. What if Hitler had found something that could grant unworldly powers? This is the premise of ÜberSoldier: the Nazis use powerful technology to raise the dead and produce powerful soldiers to take on the Allies. But the resistance gets a hold of an ÜberSoldier and can use it against the Nazi regime! Oh sweet revenge! You are that rogue ÜberSoldier, bent on shooting as many Nazis as possible.

ÜberSoldier is just a single player game, a rare and disappointing occurrence in today’s gaming market. The game is a classic first person shooter with some minor wrinkles to the action. Since the game takes place at the end of World War II, ÜberSoldier features World War II-era weapons from both sides of the European conflict. Your character can hold one weapons of each type: pistol, rifle, automatic, heavy, and grenade. Weapons of the game class are essentially the same, so you’ll drop weapons that you have less ammunition for. ÜberSoldier has the Walther P38, Colt M1911, Mauser Kar. 98k, SVT-40 sniper rifle, s.Pz.B-41 anti-tank rifle, MP-40, FG-42, StG-44, PPSH-41, M39 grenade, MG-42, M1918A2, Panzerschrek, Phoenix flamethrower, and others. Reload time is very slow, which is accurate for the day but disrupts the constant flow of the game. Each weapon has a specific ammo type, so you’ll end up using the weapons of the enemies since they’ll be carrying that kind of ammunition. The game has an arcade health system, where it takes many shots to kill you (well, you are an ÜberSoldier, after all) as well as the enemies. This has a couple of exceptions, notably head shots and grenades. It took around 20 direct shots to kill me, but only one grenade? Hmm. Once you do get shot, there is a plethora of health packs littered around the map, clearly indicated on your minimap.

Delta Force 2 offers around 45 single-player missions, including 25 sorties split between two campaigns and 20 stand-alone scenarios, in which you must prove yourself against large and heavily armed terrorist armies. In most cases, you'll work alone or with a handful of computer-controlled support teams. Most scenarios involve a clandestine attack-and-destroy mission against enemy bases, though many also include hostage rescue, recovery of stolen assets, and other commando-style objectives. The game also contains a powerful mission editor that lets you craft complex scenarios with relative ease and even provides thorough documentation for it.

The mission design in Delta Force 2 is generally excellent. Not only are most scenarios more difficult than the missions in the original, but they also seem realistic and believable. Although some are definitely influenced by Hollywood (one stand-alone mission conjured memories of the train attack scene in Lawrence of Arabia, for example), even these are a lot of fun from beginning to end.

It's fast-paced, it's gritty, and it's got style to spare, but El Matador is also one of the most infuriatingly unbalanced shooters in years.

El Matador has something of a Hitman or Splinter Cell feel because of the gritty settings, the true-crime storyline where you're trying to take down the heirs to Pablo Escobar single-handedly, and the fact that just a few bursts of fire or a couple of well-placed grenades can send you to back to Washington in a body bag. But this isn't a tactical shooter or a sneaker. On the contrary, this is one of the fastest, most traditional shooters seen in recent years. It has a Doom-like pace (and soundtrack), a generic selection of weapons, and tons of enemies that are waiting around every corner. If you slow down, you'll get pinned down by withering fire and then killed by either the barrage of lead directed your way or the grenades that are always efficiently tossed into hiding spots.

It puts the player in charge of up to four troops at once, and while this squad element is a neat idea that opens up some interesting strategic possibilities, Conflict's problematic gameplay and run-of-the-mill presentation keep the game from succeeding on any level.

Conflict: Desert Storm is a military-themed tactical third-person shooter that is set in the Middle East.
Desert Storm starts out with a brief optional tutorial segment. This training sequence teaches you the intricacies of movement, combat, and commanding your squad. From there, you're given control of one man and sent on your first mission. Halfway through, you'll rescue the second member of your squad. As the game proceeds, you'll work your way up to four troops, each with different specialties. Some are better medics than others, some are better marksmen, and each starts with a different set of weaponry, including an M-16, a sniper rifle, or other real-world weapons. As you move from mission to mission, your troops gain experience. If one soldier uses a lot of medikits in a mission, he might become more proficient at healing. Other actions will improve your other attributes, such as marksmanship, which is key, considering how awful the game's auto-aim is at taking enemies out quickly. But even when your marksmanship is improved, dropping into the game's first-person manual aim mode is still much more efficient.

Though the overused backdrop of World War II has probably surpassed it recently, science fiction and first-person shooting still go hand in hand. The near-future settings of many action games let developers both insert all manner of laser guns into them and spin tales of futures gone awry. Digital Extremes' Pariah is just such a game, giving users access to a small arsenal of impossible weaponry, while having the story take place in a war-torn world of the future. While the backdrop may still have some life left in it, Pariah's combat, story, and weapons loadout are all positively lifeless, making the game feel like nothing more than an also-ran shooter that barely stands on its own, let alone stands up to the genre's best.

There are 5 games in this particular pack - Hippo Hop, Burper, Sling Shooter, Jungle PinBall and Bug Drop.

HIPPO HOP
The main aim of this game is to let Timon jump onto various "stepping stones" in the river, collecting bugs for Pumbaa's barbeque - all the while avoiding falling in the river. The controls are easy - just use the cursor keys to jump and collect.

BURPER
This is my second favourite in this pack. Timon shakes a tree which releases bugs which in turn Pumbaa kills with his foul smelling burps - you do have to watch out for the bad bugs though and for heavy fruit and bugs landing on his head or else he will get knocked out!

SLING SHOOTER
It's like being at the fair all over again! There are some real (and some fake) targets in the shape of fruit and animals which you must shoot with your berries. The quicker you shoot them the quicker you get to the next level.

BUG DROP
A baby's version of Tetris. Match up the coloured bugs and try to beat your opponent by having the least amount of bugs in your trench. Make sure that Pumbaa doesnt eat them all though!

JUNGLE PINBALL
he king of the arcade is brought to life in the jungle with gophers and other animals blocking your way as you try to get the highest score in much the same way as usual. This is my least favourite of them all as there seems to be too much activity going on all the time.

Loosely based within the same universe as zombie pioneer George Romero's Land of the Dead film from earlier this year, Road to Fiddler's Green isn't content on being another completely unplayable movie-to-game translation. It's almost as though the developers wanted to capture the essence of the zombie through each and every aspect of the game. In many ways, it feels like it was once a regular, workaday, full-featured first-person shooter that was horribly murdered by zombies and then resurrected into a shambled, decrepit, undead version of its former self. Every component of this game is slow to react, dumb as a doornail, and irreparably broken. It shuffles along at a sluggish, depressing pace while pieces of it literally fall apart at the seams. And the only thing going through its figurative mind is the unquenchable instinct to attack and feed on your free time and money. This game is either one of the most avant-garde pieces of gaming artistry to ever find its way to the retail market, or one of the worst PC games you'll ever play--though, it's probably the latter.
